About Us
The Civic Mapping Initiative (CMI) is a research effort identifying “last mile” transit expansion opportunities to support smart infrastructure planning and workforce development.
Acquired by the National League of Cities in 2023, CMI supports policy initiatives around improving public transit access to civic infrastructure across the country. CMI’s interactive maps highlight transit burdens that impede access to public services — and opportunities for improvement.
CMI was created by the Seldin/Haring-Smith Foundation in 2021. CMI’s maps have been featured in media outlets across the country, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, USA Today, and NPR Marketplace, and have inspired active bipartisan legislation.
